BURGLARIES:
The Valley has had a total of seven burglaries for March, with four being committed during
daylight hours and three committed at night. There were two committed on Stokes Valley Rd,
and one each on August Street, Hawthawn Cres, John Street, Glen Road and Kereru Grove.
Three young Maori males were apprehended in a resident's house as the occupants arrived
home, rather sad when one of the burglars was a neighbour.
As in previous months, jewellery, cash and playstations were targeted. It would be good
practice for you to photograph your jewellery, so when trying to give descriptions to
Police or your insurance company, it would be so much easier to view a photo. I have an
engraver at the office so you can engrave your stereo or playstation. It would be a lot
harder for these criminals to sellon your property if your name is on it.
THEFT EX-CAR:
This offence is rearing it head once again, 3 cars have been broken into so far this
month. It cannot be stressed enough, please don't leave valuables in your car.
DRIVING OFFENCES
Due to a series of complaints in relation to speed, patrols have now stepped up targeting
speedsters in our area. Also Boyracers and trail bikers (possibly unlicenced) in our area
seem to have increased in numers and they appear intent on drawing attention to themselves
by dropping wheelies around the town, please if you witness this behaviour ring the
Police. We shouldn't have to put up with these idiots.
Just a reminder to these people that instant fines now a very heavy. If you are unlicenced
or you breach the conditions of your licence it's a $400.00 fine so don't grizzle when you
get caught.
While operating in the Valley, checkpoints have apprehended a large number of disqualified
or suspended drivers. Please remember that if you are forbidden to drive and you are
caught, you will also lose your car.
LOST AND FOUND
I have had a near new Gold Mountain bike with front and rear suspension and a couple of
religious compact discs and nice piece of jewellery handed to the office.
SPECIAL NOTE
After a recent screening of the TV show "Groundforce," several residents of the
Valley observed the recently stolen bell from the Buddest monastry on the show. I would
like to thank all those who rang my office to advise they had seen the bell. It has been
returned to the monastery and enquires are continuing into identifying the offenders for
this crime.
