Stokes Valley Library
August 2002
We had a very busy and exciting
school holidays here at Stokes Valley. Our holiday programme was based on a Pacifika theme
and we had guests Jerome Leota (who also brought friends Cain and Ian to help) and Epi
Swan. Two days before Jerome was due to perform, we got news that Anthony Samuels from What
Now? would be coming to film the performance. We moved shelves and made space for the
large crowd of children and parents who duly turned up on the day. Unfortunately the
pictures taken on the digital camera at Stokes Valley did not come out, but below is a
picture of Jerome taken at another library. He was a marvellous performer and the children
had a ball with him. They also were very excited about Anthony Samuels being here. Epi
Swan's session the following week was also a hit. She taught the children songs with
actions from Tokelau.
For all those who loved the first Artemis Fowl book by Eoin Colfer,
the second called Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident is now in the library. These
books are a great read for 10 year olds upwards. We have been getting some lovely and very
readable children's picture books lately too like Really, Really by Kes Gray
& Nick Sharratt; The Clothesline by Carolina May; A Sausage Went for a
Walk by Ellisha Majid and Peter Kendall; The Big Bad Rumour by Jonathan
Meres & Jacqueline East.
Our reading club is still meeting on the third Monday of the month and we have all read
and discussed biographies this month. I will produce a pamphlet outlining the books we
read and next month we will discuss travel books so if you're looking for an interesting
discussion group, please come along.
See you in the library this winter,
