Mainly Music!

I want to share with you something amazing. The wonderful experience to participate with babies and toddlers with music. They put their whole heart and soul into it. They hear the music begin - and there’s this look that comes on their face, then it starts to penetrate and then their whole body is involved in the music.

I remember taking my own children to preschool music with Rhada in Nelson. What a memorable time. I was with my daughter in a shop in Lower Hutt the other day and one of Rhada’s songs was playing. Twenty years after she had gone to preschool music - she recognised the voice and the music - ‘That’s Rhada’, she said.

Now she is bringing her own daughter to music. Mainly Music has come to Stokes Valley. It started last Thursday and there was 10 of us in the hall - tapping the beat on ourselves and getting involved in the music and movement.

Mainly Music is a nationwide program, which began in Hillsborough in Auckland in 1989. We’ve been out and visited a few other groups and were so excited we felt that this was for Stokes Valley. So here we are. Meeting in the hall at the little stone Church on the corner of Stokes Valley Rd and Rawhiti St on Thursdays from 1.30 to 2.30.

This is for caregivers and their toddlers and preschoolers. The caregivers participate and help the children get the most out of the sessions. The music and movement goes for about 30 minutes and then there is a time for afternoon tea and get to know each other.

Also happening at the Little Stone Church for children …

  Tuesday after school until 4.45 - Kidz Club for 5 - 8 yr olds.
  Wednesday after school until 4.45 - Friendz Club for 9-11 yr olds
    both groups have games, stories, activities and afternoon tea.
    A fun time for children which operates on a koha basis.
  Sunday morning at 10am - Children’s Church in the hall

  Sunday services
    8.30am - Communion
    10 am - Communion with music
    5pm - Evening prayer of different types each week.
  1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 1pm - Holy Communion followed by a craft and social group in the hall.
