Paul Swain - MP for Rimutaka
August 2002

I'd like to thank the people of Stokes Valley for turning out to support both myself and the Labour Party on July 27th. Being an electorate MP for Rimutaka is a great honour and I was thrilled with the level of support I received. You have my commitment that I will work with everyone - local body councillors, local business people and community groups - on issues, which are important to Stokes Valley.

What the country said on the 27th is that it wants a strong Labour-led government over the next three years. We will work with supportive parties to ensure the country enjoys stable government.

During this term we'd like to build on the good progress that we've made since 1999. First and foremost is the economy and our goal of lifting New Zealand back into the top half of the OECD. Not only does a fast-growing economy create more jobs it means New Zealand can afford to have world-class public health and education systems.

One of the major local issues I want to concentrate on is the rail system to make sure Hutt Valley rail passengers get a better deal.

Once again I'd like to thank the people of Stokes Valley for their support.

Please remember that I have two electorate offices at Taita and Upper Hutt, which are open from 9am - 4pm Monday to Friday. I am available to offer help and advice to all constituents, regardless of how they voted. I look forward to being of service to you over the next three years.

If you would like to discuss these or any other matters further, please phone me at my Taita electorate office on 567-0156 or my Upper Hutt electorate office on 528-5715. I am also available at my Parliament Office on 470 6565. If you prefer, you can write to me C/- Parliament Buildings, Wellington (no stamp required).
