Northern Ward Candidates Unofficial Vote Results
Last month we gave the Northern Ward Committee Candidates the opportunity to submit to us 250 words about themselves, thereby giving the public a chance to see who might represent them at a community level. Not all the candidates took advantage of this opportunity, but overall we were pleased how many did so.
We then presented the opportunity for the public to vote for their preferred five candidates.
While the results will have no impact on the final decision to be made by council, it provided the only real opportunity for the community at large to have its say.
The total number of separate votes cast was only
105. This is not so surprising when one considers that the total vote for the Council
elections amounted to only around 45% of eligible voters. This again shows a level of
apathy with regards to local body affairs or perhaps more a lack of understanding of how
local body activities impact on people's everyday lives.
