Election Profile: Dr Russel Norman

Dr. Russel Norman - Candidate for the Green Party in Rimutaka

Age 35
I currently work as Parliamentary Secretary/Researcher
I have a PhD in politics from Macquarie University, Sydney.
I rent a house in Vogeltown but will be based at an organic farm on Moonshine Rd for the campaign.
I have not previously been a Parliamentary candidate.

I am standing in Rimutaka to ask people to give their Party vote to the Green Party. The Green Party stands for social justice, environmental sustainability, peaceful conflict resolution and grassroots decision-making.

The great unknown at this election is not who will get the most votes. Labour will. The question is whether Labour will rule the country alone or need the Greens to form a majority in Parliament. The last time Labour governed alone, from 1984 to 1990, they sold the nation’s assets and introduced us to the marvels of the New Right. Let’s not do it again.

For two and a half years the Green Party has provided the necessary votes in Parliament for the minority Labour-Alliance Government to pass its budgets. And we will continue to support a Labour-led Government so long as they don’t allow the full-scale commercial release of genetically engineered organisms - as they plan to do in October next year. GE organisms cannot be recalled once released and we have no idea what they will do to our food and environment. So why rush into this irreversible decision? KEEP GE IN THE LAB!
