Stokes Valley News in Brief
June 2002

Stokes Valley Nuclear Family Going to Vienna
Allan & Trinnette Grey have lived in Holborn for the last 10 years. They have three children, Matthew (17) Alex (14) and Scott (11). Allan went to Vienna (Austria) in January to work for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) as a radio technician, looking after the radio and satellite communications. There are currently 100 monitoring stations around the world listening for any hint of a nuclear explosion. Plans are afoot to have 300 listening stations in the future.

Trinnette and the children will be following at the beginning of June. The family will be overseas for at least three years and will have the possibility of renewing their contract for another 4 years.

Draft Annual Plan Submission
Fifty people, mostly Stokes Valley residents, signed a submission on the Hutt City Council's Draft Annual Plan. They are asking for a nil rate rise for Stokes Valley based on the fact that none of the proposed projects planned to improve the city and create jobs will be of any direct benefit to the residents of Stokes Valley.

Local Boy wins Dating Cruise
Brendan Ritchie put his name forward for the radio station dating game arranged by The Edge. His picture went on their web site along with 80 other hopefuls. 150 women also entered. Voting took place online to determine eight males and eight females who would win a cruise on a P & O liner to the Fijian Islands. During the cruise they will all date each other then vote on who was the best date. The cruise ends on 1t June with the "best date" wining $5000 ( each for male and female). We'll let you know how our boy did next month.

Local Govt. NZ conference Rep
The Local Government Conference planned for the end of the month will have The Mayor John Terris and two councillors attending. The conference organisers have also invited Geoff Mann, Chairman of the Eastbourne Community Board. There are no Ward Committee representatives attending, nor have they been invited. Because of the split representation models in the city 60,000 rate payers will have no one at the conference representing them. Again all the city's focus seems to be on the CBD, Eastbourne and Petone.
