Rob,
Congratulations on yet another great issue, full of interest.
Keep it going - we need another channel giving an alternative point of view from the Dom/Post; Hutt News; and SV Times - and you're fulfilling this role admirably.
Best wishes for future issues...

Hi,
I have read the comment written by D. James & A. Butters (May issue). Instead of blaming the council for making the decision on who gets a clean up and who doesn't maybe you both should direct your opinions at the person who is supposed to be representing this suburb. Do you not think that it is the responsibilty of the person who is representing Stokes Valley to push for what this community wants?

I think that it is. If the person or councillor that is representing this community is only working half hearted then we will only gain half hearted results. It is not up to the council to maintain our lawns. If a person's grass is long then it's up to that person to mow it. A lot of people nowadays expect a little too much from others.

You could also help by gathering people of the community to help keep this place clean the whole responsibility shouldn't be placed on top of the council. There are many other things that this community could gain from instead of worrying how clean or how dirty the neighbour's yard is. We also shouldn't worry about what other suburbs are gaining. What we should be worrying about is how our community can be bettered.

So let's focus on the positive things that can happen in this community and if we do have a representative in the council then, for that rep to work harder and not half heartdly. It's obvious that some reps work not for the community even though they say they are but, they work to line their own pockets. Who doesn't? Bigger people always line themselves first while little people always come last. Just like our government...These people forget that if it wasn't for us little people they wouldn't be sitting where they are now. So just as easily as they got in they can be easily put out too. Just a thought for you to think about.

Dear Editor,
My sister, Lesley Smeaton, has just told me about the SVN online website. I would very much appreciate receiving notification when new issues appear. I lived in Stokes Valley from 1952 to 1989, I now live in San Diego California.

Sir,

Re SV better than you imagine... I live opposite the clothing bins to find that they keep us awake.  People walking around at night seem to have discovered how noisy they are when jumping on and off them, tipping them over, throwing balls and bottles against them and generally ensuring that this part of the neighbourhood is kept awake.  It is noisy enough living on a busy road without any extra noise.  They are not emptied regularly and quite often there are boxes stacked against them causing an unsightly mess.   To top it off with the payphone there, if people are putting clothes in the bins or using the phone, you cannot turn into the driveway safely without holding up traffic which is a danger in itself.  That area in general is an unsightly sore and should be tidied up to enhance the area.

On a brighter note, just like to say what a excellent source of information the SVN is and keep up the good work

Sir,

I recently received a note in the mail detailing the SVN website. This is just a quick note to say what a great idea and keep up the good work.
