Motorway Development South of Valley Entrance

Motorists to or from Stokes Valley may have noticed some roadworks taking place just south of the valley entrance. One thing that may not be immediately noticeable is that the speed limit for that stretch of road has been reduced from 100 kph to 80 kph. The Stokes Valley News strongly advises motorists to be aware of the reduction, and not get caught!

The work in progress is the result of a safety review of traffic in the area.

Last year various options were considered to improve safety levels on that stretch of road including taking out one south bound lane. However, Public submissions were strongly against that proposal and so a more expensive option was approved. Effectively the driveway to the houses along that part of the road are being extended to allow for better merging into the traffic flow.

The work is due to be completed by the end of May at a cost of $75,000.
