For the past 10 years I have been actively involved with Local Government.
As a Naenae resident 10 years ago, I went along to a public meeting where the Naenae
Community Committee was elected by the people present. This committee was a project of
Mayor Glen Evans. I feel we were able to achieve some positive things for Naenae and the
Eastern Ward Committee have continued on with the process. The major achievement was getting the Learners Pool at Naenae roofed and rebuilt, through fundraising and lobbying the Annual Plan process. Seven years on I became a member of the Northern Ward Committee appointed after a mock election was held. This triennium Council themselves have appointed the four Ward Committees and I am the alternate City Councillor. My goal for the next three years is to work alongside the residents of the Northern Ward, Taita, Pomare and Stokes Valley, being a reference point and a sounding board for enquiries. The following list describes part of my local Ward workload for the next three years:
These are just a few projects that are
already in the pipeline and I know others will surface. Alongside all this will be
business as usual around the Council table as your local representative. |
