Well I have now completed my first year as a Hutt City Councillor representing the Northern Ward and with a responsibility to the whole city. It has certainly been a time full of "P"s: patience, perseverance, procedure, process, policy, pampering, pandering, even pay-offs.

I survived my first Annual Plan Process and am much more confident for next year.

It has been pleasing for me to be involved in some improvements to Stokes Valley, the roundabout, wild flowers on Eastern Hutt Rd, hanging baskets & planter boxes refurbishment, BBQ's for Speldhurst Park, stormwater water improvements, sale of 153A SV Rd. upgrading of footpaths, lobbying to tidy up the rail corridor around Pomare, to name a few as well as the many queries from residents.

In the future will be a youth club site, bridge over the river, traffic calming in many areas, further upgrading of playgrounds, supporting the Taita Community Hall transition to public use, new landfill site, possum busters, lobbying for continued upgrading to walkways, continuing my interest in eco, recycling and conservation issues.

We can be proud of the new package that HCC has prepared to handout to new residents explaining important things that they would need to know coming to a new area.

Work is continuing on the 10 Year Community Plan. Council will be deciding very soon whether Seaview Marina should become a Late.

A couple of highlights of my year:

I would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a joyous new year, and safe travelling I am looking forward to representing you in 2003.

Finally I get a good feel for Hutt City in the future, things are growing and expanding a pity though the population is not, new buildings being constructed and retail opening. Westfield will certainly be an asset when it open in late 2004 with its extensions, maybe to coincide with the Dowse extensions.
